WOMEN’S COUNCIL OF REALTORS® CALIFORNIA STATE CHAPTER GENERAL MEMBERSHIP & GOVERNING BOARD MINUTES Monday, October 15, 2001 Marriott Marina, San Diego, California Attendees: Credential reported 91 attendees signed in sheet: 81 National Members eligible for voting. President Carole de Losada called meeting to order at 8:10 a.m. Carole welcomed everyone and introduced the head table—Mary Jane Cambria, Treasurer; Betty Taisch, President Elect; Judy Myers, Parliamentarian; and Sharon Telles, Secretary; Governors—Emily Link, Sabrina Shewfelt, Linda Ellen Anderson, Jeri Jorgenson, and Ruth A. Hayles; Past State Presidents--Bill Aboumrad, and Emily Link. Additional Past Presidents introduced were Linda, Hofstatter.
Pledge of Allegiance was led by Teri Miles, Coastal/West Orange County Chapter President. Inspiration was given by Linda Ellen Anderson, State Governor.
First time attendees were welcomed and introduced themselves. Carole announced the chartering of the new Monterey Peninsula Chapter and Long Beach Chapter.
TREASURER’S REPORT: Mary Jane Cambria.
January 1, 2001 through October 14, 2001: Total Income is $58,489.03; Total Expenses are $42,835.42. Balance of the Accounts are: WCR Checking Account - $30,519.93; WCR Savings Account - $22,231.89; Total all accounts - $52,751.82. Treasurer’s Report was filed for Audit. Roll Call was taken by Sharon. Governing Board Members present: 4 State Officers; 5 Governors; 22 Chapters represented; 19 Committee Chairmen; Judy Myers, Parliamentarian. Quorum Present. PRESIDENT ELECT’S REPORT: Betty Taisch
Officer’s Orientation was very successful with the National WCR facilitators—Judy Moser and Ann DeFries. Membership Reported as of September 30, 2001, 27 Chapters and 1443 members. New WCR Chapters for 2001 are Long Beach with Denise Aguilar and Joyce Marinelli present; Monterey Peninsula Chapter with Susan Clark and Bobbie Kelly; and Santa Clarita. Palm Springs is in the formation stages.
Sponsor Message was presented by Marsha Newman of American Home Shield.
Betty announced that there were Committee Responsibilities with sign-up sheets on the table. Carole de Losada announced that we are going to need a National Governor for next year as Julie Melim has withdrawn her nomination for a National Governor.
Governors met with the local Chapter Presidents and then made their reports:
Linda Ellen Anderson reported on Delta, East bay, Southern Alameda, Tri-cities and Wine Country; Jeri Jorgenson, Sacramento, Solano, Contra Costa, Napa, and Placer; Sabrina Shewfelt, Santa Clara, San Francisco, Monterey Peninsula, Santa Cruz, and San Mateo; Ruth Hayles, Southwest Los Angeles Chapter, Long Beach Chapter, LA/Orange County Line and Coastal/West Orange; and Emily Link, Conejo Valley, San Fernando, and San Clarita, and the new Palm Spring Chapter which is forming. Carole introduced our Regional Vice President Margo Willis and 2001 WCR National President, Maxine Jennings.
Credential’s Committee Report: Carol Meyers
Credentials signed in 91 people and 81 voting members are present. Election of Officers for 2002:
Carole went over the rules of the day for voting. She thanked both Linda Hofstatter and Nita Lyons for handling the Nominating Committee. Four Sergeants-at-arms were appointed—Bill Aboumrad, Nita Lyons, Jim Cobb, and Sharon Montes de Oca. Linda Hoffstatter gave the Nominating Committee Report: 2002 President will be Betty Taisch. The nominations proposed by the Nominating Committee are: President Elect, Sharon Telles; Secretary, Mary Jane Cambria; Treasurer, Susan Marshall. Linda then explained the composition of the Nominating Committee—3 from the Governing Board; 3, general membership; and 2 alternates. The immediate Past President is normally the Nominating Chair. The following Officers were elected for 2002. President Elect, Sharon Telles; Secretary, Jeri Jorgenson; Treasurer, Susan Marshall.
Two National Governors will need to be elected tomorrow. The Nominating Committee will be interviewing candidates for those positions.
ANNOUNCEMENTS:
National President Shiela Espinoza has cancer in her leg. Regional Vice President Margo Willis shared with us her year as Region VIII Vice President. Lunch Break and meeting reconvened at 1:20 p.m. Carol Luckenbach gave a Sponsor promotion for Old Republic Title. Committee Meeting were held until 2:00 p.m. Education Chair, Arti Miglani introduced our keynote speaker Bill Mayer, the author of “The Magic of Asking The Right Question”, who gave a very interesting and informative presentation.
Committee Meeting were reconvened. Carole introduced C.A.R. Treasurer, Toby Bradley.
COMMITTEE REPORTS:
Bylaws: Mike Riley Bylaw changes voted on at our June 5th Meeting will be noticed in the newsletter and voted on at our January, 2002 meetings. Pat Frederick moved that we raise the State WCR dues from $13 to $25 effective January 1, 2002. Seconded. Carried.
The Bylaws Committee is reviewing the existing Standing Rules that were revised in 1995. After a brief floor discussion on the Standing Rules, Barbara Safran moved that we refer the Standing Rules back to the Bylaws Committee. Seconded. Carried.
California REALTORâ EXPO: Mike Riley, EXPO Chair, invited everyone to attend Technology Tuesday and the REALTORâ EXPO on Wednesday and Thursday.
Pinnacle Awards: Bill Aboumrad
Bill announced that local chapters may submit Pinnacle entries to the Committee for review and suggested that the State Chapter submit an entry for 2002 and choose the category at the January 2002, meetings. Education Committee: Arti Miglani
Arti announced that Leslie Appleton-Young will speak at our January 21st meeting. Hospitality: Denise Smith
Denise Smith moved that we roll over $656.70 left in the hospitality budget to the 2002 budget to budget $1656.70 for hospitality. Seconded. Carried. Scholarship: Denise Aquila
Denise Aquila moved that the Joanne McEachern Memorial Scholarship of $500 be divided into 4 awards of $125 each with the following criteria: Applicant must hold LTG Designation or be receiving LTG during the current year; heavily involved in WCR both state and local; have earned other recognized designations; number of years in the business, and must write a short statement on how they see the benefits of WCR. Final review of the applications and granting of award is subject to Awards Committee Decision and the committee’s decision is final. Seconded. Carried. Meeting Planning: Bobbie Nelson
The Meeting Planning Committee is requesting that each Chapter donate $50. towards the State Installation. Referral Committee: Judith Judson
The Referral Committee will send out a blast fax out to members. Member referral awards will be given out at the January 2002, meeting. ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Mike Riley announced that the Bylaws Committee will meet on Tuesday morning at 8:30 a.m. The continental breakfast will start at 8:30 a.m. and the Meeting will start promptly at 9:00 a.m.
